Rupert Senior is one of the UK’s foremost bespoke furniture designers and makers. He is passionate about what he does, working together with his enthusiastic clients to produce contemporary pieces of understated style and beauty.

Rupert’s goal is to create unique furniture with a simplicity and honesty of form and proportion using outstanding British craftsmanship and superb materials.  He finds the design process a particularly exciting moment, often exploring opportunities for innovation in response to the way people live today.

Much of Rupert’s work is made in wood, his acknowledged area of expertise. From the careful selection of this most natural of materials to its imaginative use, fusing the very best of traditional cabinet-making with modern technologies, Rupert draws on his wealth of experience to produce the best possible result – timeless, luxurious pieces that are eye-catching and irresistible to touch.

He often teams up with other artist-craftsmen who have a similar degree of expertise, sharing his vision and drive for excellence in furniture making and also in other fields such as precision engineering, metalwork, glass or upholstery. The results of these collaborations have been spectacular, some of which you can see on this website.

Commissions undertaken by Rupert include individual pieces for the home such as dining tables, chairs, desks, cabinets, screens, games tables; and truly original gifts to mark special occasions from boxes to book and lamp stands. Recent public commissions include special folio cases for the Sir Charles Barry Library at the Travellers Club, Pall Mall, London.

Rupert’s interest in woodwork began at school. He trained at The Parnham School for Craftsmen in Wood before setting up in partnership as Senior and Carmichael. After a productive collaboration of some 25 years, Rupert went on to establish his own successful studio, based in Surrey.

Rupert lives with his wife, Henrietta, their two daughters and a Scottish terrier called Tatty.  When Rupert is not designing and making furniture he loves to paint, sail and fish.
